In November 1879 a meeting at the Queens Head in Everton village decided to call there new club Everton Football Club because they no longer believed they could call themselves after a church club because of many players joining Everton from different churches. Information on this first season is very hard to locate because Everton were basically a junior club in the world of Association football and no more then 100 clubs existed, the city of Liverpool main sports were Rugby and Cricket.
