Everton were left homeless after Mr. Cruitt asked Everton to leave Priory Road as Everton could not pay the rent and leaving the goalposts, ropes, steaks etc behind for arrears in rent, which Messrs Barclays and Jackson had to put their hands in their pockets to clear off. After Mr. Houlding had come back from Paris, Everton directors waited on him to find a new land. Mr Houlding, sympatric to their dilemma, quickly found Everton a new home on Anfield Road. The Orrell brothers owned the property and Mr Houlding became tennant. The season had already kicked off against Port Vale and the Everton players who had not trained were heavily beaten 7-0 within days of this game they build the Anfield enclosure which was hastily made and the ground its self blown down in the first October winds and again quickly errected. The ground itself was boarding round the pitch with a small stand of 65 yards long.
